The Black Mausoleum
Past Bobby's gate, past the leaning stones, to the locked far end, the Covenanters' Prison. In 1679, Sir George Mackenzie penned twelve hundred souls into this open field to die of cold and hunger. They called him Bluidy Mackenzie. He sleeps in the domed black tomb ahead: the most attacked grave on earth. And tonight, he is stirring.

“You bring the rabble of my city to my door? A dog. A thief. A drowned woman. Carved toys and a hanged fishwife. THIS is your army?”

The ward holds. The rowan and cold iron warm in your fist; the poltergeist's clawing slides off you like rain off slate. You bought yourself a clear head for what comes next.
The dead answer for you
Bobby sets at your heel and will not be moved, loyalty Mackenzie never earned, turned against him.
The Covenanters rise from the prison field: twelve hundred voices he tried to silence, all speaking at once.
Deacon Brodie grins. “Two-faced, are ye? Takes one to ken one, Advocate.”

The truth that breaks him. He is not the city's opposite, he is its mirror. The same two faces every soul here wears, only he spent both of his on cruelty. Name that, and the tomb has no power left.

the cold finds your arms in the dark
Unseen hands take hold. You are put out of the kirkyard the way Mackenzie put out the Covenanters, without ceremony, without mercy. Something in you stays behind in the frost.

Death is not the end of the quest. You can still walk the city and finish every story you skipped, the dead don't mind one of their own. But the tomb is done with you: you cannot face Bluidy Mackenzie again. That door is shut.
