Always check the Dead … On a cold grey night, a young woman died on her wedding day without warning. No one can explain what happened to her. No Disease, no discovered cause. She just collapsed before she could vow herself to her fiancé. To honor her, they dressed her in her wedding dress and jewelry during her funeral. Consumed by grief, the family returned home after the funeral. Not knowing what mistake, they made, they left the bride all alone in her coffin in the church overnight. Only a few hours later her family opened the door to find their dead daughter In her wedding dress, covered in blood on their doorway.

So, what had happened to the young girl?
Some say she suffered a case of paralysis and was revived by the pain of thieves ripping out her earrings from her ear lobes while stealing her jewelry.

Others were convinced that the dead bride had been risen from her coffin during the night.

But most importantly; what would have happened to the bride if she did suffer a case of cataplexy and no one bad revived her?

The Novia

It has come to our attention that the villages of Barcelona located close to the cemetery of Santa Maria, have been complaining about noises in the night. After executing the traitor general Josep Moragues I Mas, and placing his head on the end of the gallows close to the cemetery, people have been complaining about it.
We firmly addressed that his head will and shall not be moved for the next twelve years and that it will be a reminder for them to not provoke you. The first day they seemed to understand. But then a couple days after, they returned and asked again. With more desperation this time. Ghey explained that the head cries all through the night and that his weeping is louder than any other noise. Our first response was to laugh. We laughed at them for atleast 15 minutes. But then an older lady invited us in the night. Go see it ourselves. Our youngest member agreed firmly and after some beers we went to the graveyard. Majesty, they were not only right … I1 is worse than we expected. We saw our own brothers of the field fighting the soldiers of the general. he was not only crying, he also commanded all the fallen soldiers to slay our burried brothers. We have never seen something so sinister as bleeding corpses fighting each other. The mysterious old lady was next to his head as she looked at us… staring. She only whispered; ‘Bury your dead somewhere else and leave our death sons alone’. Tomorrow, if you allow us, we will move the graves of our soldiers and from now on we will bury our soldiers outside the city. regards, General J.

Lost Lovers

A long time ago the house on this corner belonged to a very rich family. They lived a respectable life in Barcelona if it were not for their daughter who secretly had a relationship with a son from a bourgeois family. They loved each other dearly and promised eternal love to each other in life and in death. Each night the son came to the window of this specific side walk. One evening, after he returned from his lover, he ran into a group of bandits. He was mortally wounded by a dagger and fell into the mud. But he had made a promise; in love and death.

So, the next night he arrived at the window of his lover again, pale and with sad, sunken eyes. Every night he came to his lover, as his shadow became smaller and smaller. But the girl also became more degenerated and sick night after night. A doctor sent her to the church, where she confessed about her lover. The priest stopped her and told her that the young man had been buried a few months ago.

But she kept believing and in the night her lover arrived as well. At the end of the evening the priest, who had been waiting in the shadows, came up to the shadow and released him from this world. With one last glance at the window the presence disappeared. The next day, the daughter opened her window again, but her lover was gone. It is said that she wept until the end of her days, but she was healthy doing so …

Do you hear the whipping? Pure leather on flesh. Cracked flesh. It just doesn’t stop. I hear it day and night. Over and over again. And the whining. Silently. More and more silent every time. It starts intensively, but as the whipping continues the whining turns into weeping. The flogging itself isn’t the worst part. It is the lack of continuity in it. The rhythm. It lacks any form of rhythm. Making you hear every whip, every whine and every deadly silence after it. It must come from the chapel. I never hear it when I pass the chapel. Not once have I heard it. But once I turn my back to the square and the wells, it starts. Loudly at first. But the more distance I create, the softer the sound get. But it never disappears. Sometimes I stay on the square for hours. Looking at the wells. To just not hear it. But once it gets dark, the shadows arise in the corner of my eye. I see them. All of them. Every soul that lost their life here.

I knew I had behaved poorly. I knew. It all happened so fast and I tried to run. I did. I tried to escape but then I felt it. First it felt cold. It felt like I was freezing. The iron bar had hit me hard. I smelled it before I could feel it. Burned flesh. I didn’t look. I didn’t want to see my half open burned arm. The others started screaming. They knew they were next. I don’t know how but the iron bar had fallen on the hay that the others were sitting on. It caught fire so quickly and everyone panicked. Especially the younger ones. But he had locked the door, like he always did when we was going to lose his temper. So, we didn’t get out. We never did. We are still here and I don’t dare to look. We all don’t dare to look at what look like now.

The Hotel

Missing

Jane Doe

“I checked in alone. They said there was always room. There was. There just wasn’t a way out.”

Unlock Story

Jane Doe

12 February 1951
Jane Doe vanished without a trace after arriving alone in Barcelona. Witnesses last saw her near the Santa Caterina Market, where she reportedly checked into Hostal Flor del Lliri, a modest hostel where you now see a brick-sealed archway.

The hostel had a reputation: it always had a room available for solo travelers with money. Too convenient.

According to later investigations and whispered testimonies, guests slept in specially designed folding beds. During the night, the mechanism would snap shut, crushing the sleeper instantly.

What followed was worse.  Bodies were butchered, cooked, and served as meat to future guests. The “house specialty.” Only one man survived after refusing the bed and sleeping on the floor, following the warning of a mysterious woman who vanished before dawn.

Authorities eventually sealed the hostel entrance behind bricks. But locals insist the victims never left.

Some swear faces still press through the mortar. Others hear whispers. Especially if you lean in too close…

Your Quest

“Do you dare to listen to the wall? If you hear us… don’t ignore it.”
Mr.

Sterces

“Kim insists this next task is ‘important for immersion.’ I insist it’s emotional manipulation. I wouldn’t dare to do it.”

They’re loud by day, quiet by night, and always standing on layers of history best left buried. Apparently last night, someone heard laughter here. Not drunk laughter. The other kind.

The Convent of Santa Caterina

Sister

Caterina

“We prayed. We whispered. And sometimes… we invited things that should have never answered.”

Unlock Story

Santa Caterina

Long before the vibrant Mercat de Santa Caterina, this site was home to the Convent of Santa Caterina, founded in 1230 and dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, also known as the Great Martyr.
Over centuries, rumors clung to the convent like damp to stone walls. Secret cults were said to have formed within its cloisters operating far beyond sanctioned religious practices. According to legend, the convent became a gathering place for women accused of witchcraft, where black masses were allegedly performed in secrecy.
Witnesses later claimed something far darker: that during one such ritual, Satan himself appeared, summoned by chants and sacrilege. Whether mass hysteria, religious paranoia, or something genuinely unexplained, the stories spread quickly and never fully died.
By the late 19th century, the convent was demolished. The ground was cleared. A market rose in its place.
Yet locals still whisper that after sunset, when the stalls close and the lights dim, laughter echoes between the tiles.
The market, conveniently, shuts down at night. Why would that be?

Your Quest

A circle forms in your imagination: the chanting witches on one side are getting ready to start their black mass. On the other side you see the humble peasants getting ready to burn down the convent. Both are staring at you like you’re late. Choose wisely (or at least dramatically).
Mr.

The Burned

King

“I thought the church would save me. I was wrong.”

Unlock Story

The Burning King

“Long before the current Gothic Cathedral stood here, a Visigothic basilica occupied this sacred ground as early as the 4th century.
When King Gesaleic took the throne, his reign was brief. He was discreetly assassinated by me, his half-brother Amalaric, who seized power in secret. But secrets do not survive long in Barcelona.
As night fell and the truth spread, the people rose in fury. I had too flee and sought sanctuary inside the basilica, convinced that no one would dare violate holy ground. I locked myself inside and waited.

I was wrong.

The people burned the church with me still inside. Sacred space lost to righteous anger.
Even after the Cathedral was later built atop the ruins, locals claimed that on certain nights, my screams could still be heard echoing through the stone.
Some fires, it seems, never truly go out.”

The Thief

The Thief
“The law stopped at the altar.
Justice never found me.”

Unlock Story

The Thief

Above the Portal de Sant Sever, hidden behind a latticed window, lies what became known as the Thieves’ Room.
Under ecclesiastical law, criminals who reached the cathedral sanctuary were protected from arrest. If they made it inside, justice had to stop at the threshold. The thieves were confined to a narrow, uncomfortable space. It was safe, but barely living.
One thief was chased inside and vanished completely. Guards searched endlessly.
Yet food left out was eaten. Footsteps echoed. Voices were heard.
But no one ever saw him again.
Years later, one morning, the food remained untouched. It was assumed he had died.
The footsteps continued anyway.
The sanctuary kept him. Or something of him.

Your Quest

Which betrayal was greater?
  • The king betraying his people
  • The people betraying sacred ground

The Skull

“They mocked his bridge. So I gave them something to stare at forever.”

Unlock Story

The Legend of the Skull

The Pont del Bisbe looks medieval, but it isn’t. It was built in 1929 by architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, a student of Antoni Gaudí and a man deeply fond of symbolism.
Rubió planned an ambitious Gothic revival around the Cathedral, even proposing the demolition of surrounding non-Gothic buildings. When the bridge was completed, critics accused him of creating a fake past.
Only later did people notice it: a skull pierced by a dagger, carved discreetly beneath the bridge.
Speculation followed quickly. Some believe it’s a real human skull embedded in stone. Others claim removing the dagger would doom Barcelona, releasing cursed souls or unleashing disaster. More optimistically, locals say that if you walk beneath the bridge with your back to the skull, your wishes may come true.
Rubió never explained it but he did understand attention.
And today, the bridge is one of the most photographed places in the Gothic Quarter. Take that bullies.

Your Quest

“Walk under the bridge once. Choose how you confront the skull.”
Mr.

Sterces

“One question; how did no one instantly notice a skull? They didn’t have phones to be distracted with in 1929. Oh sorry, yes your Quest.”

I step into the square and immediately stop walking once I see it. The walls are damaged, openly so, like scars that never healed properly. No need for imagination here.

The Bombing

Mr.

Sterces

“The church still stands. They tried to silence what happened here, but the walls remember everything.”

Unlock Story

The Bombing

The Church of Sant Felip Neri became an unwilling witness on 30 January 1938, during the Spanish Civil War. As Franco’s air force bombed Barcelona, civilians, many of them children, sought refuge in this square, believing the church would protect them. It didn’t.
A bomb struck nearby. Forty-two people died. The church remained standing, but its façade was violently scarred by shrapnel. Those marks still remain today.
After the war, the Franco regime attempted to rewrite the story. Official explanations claimed the holes were caused by executions, stray bullets, or anti-clerical violence. Basically anything except an air raid carried out by their own forces. No formal memorial followed. No plaques corrected the lie.
Luckily for you, me and Kim don’t stop until we find the truth.

The Skull

Mr.

Skull

“You invited me once. I came. Be careful what you joke about.”

Unlock Story

The Bombing

The Sant Felip Neri square always had a cemetery. It was called El Fossar de Nazareth in the middle of the 19th century. It was a sinister place with a rot and damp smell, overgrown and crooked grass and an old feeling to it. The people of Barcelona didn’t like to go close to it and would absolutely prevent it in any case. A tavern, called Can Coloma, was opened in the same street as the cemetery and it became very popular among the young people who were brave enough to have fun at the edge of the sinister cemetery. One evening two young men, who had drunk a tiny bit too much, decided to wander around a bit between the graves of the cemetery. One of the men, Sans, was a bit too eager and abandoned the path while dancing and joking around those who were put to rest by Justice. His friend, Sardà, was less eager to disturb the death. Especially when Sans found a fleshless skull at his feet. Sans started a conversation with the skull blaming the skull for his own death. This was it for Sardà and he decided to leave the cemetery quickly. Left all alone, Sans also felt the need to leave but made the fatal mistake to invite the skull to continue their conversation while having dinner. He then threw the skull in the air and gave it a kick. That same night when Sans was having dinner in his dining room of Carrer Riera del Pi, the young man was surprised by a hard knock on the door. He couldn’t even get out of his chair before he heard three hard knocks again and immediately three more. Very angry, Sans opened the door and in front of him was the skull. Death had accepted his invitation for dinner.

Your Quest

Do you dare to believe the stories? Locate the quietest spot in the square and close your eyes and open your senses for thirty seconds.

But I had not known she would leave me like this.
So cold. So terribly cold. She wished to wed and would seek for love with another man. I cannot think of such a matter without blood filling my mouth and therefore I must stop an end to it. Her father. He is the one who should be blamed and he will be the one who must feel. Luckily for me, he is the famous alchemist and I have heard her explaining of all the devilish things that he can make. “Is this about love? Control? Or is it simply Toxic? I am very glad I don’t have the same bond with Mrs. Sterces. She only makes nasty comments about my apple pie.”

I reach the end of the map and stop. It’s… just a street. A steep one, sure, but nothing dramatic. Which, historically speaking, is usually a bad sign.

The Thirteen Tortures

Santa

Eulàlia

“The punishments you received as a kid don’t seem so bad in comparison, do they?”

Unlock Story

The Thirteen Tortures

The Thirteen tortures of Santa Eulalia. As declared by Emperor Diocleciano, Eulalia, will not recant her faith, Christianity, and therefore for the sake of the whole empire she will be punished as much as the years she is old.
  1. Imprisonment in a tiny prison,
  2. Being whipped,
  3. Tearing her skin in strips,
  4. Making her walk barefoot on burning embers,
  5. The cutting off of her breasts,
  6. Rubbing her wounds with rough stones,
  7. Branding her with cast iron,
  8. Throwing boiling oil and,
  9. Molten lead over her,
  10. Submerged in burning lime,
  11. Locked in a flea box,
  12. Rolled down a hill, naked, in a barrel full of knives, swords, glass,
  13. Crucified in the form of a cross.

Your Quest

They asked me to abandon what defined me. Not just my faith but my truth. If you stand where I once stood. Tell me honestly: if your safety depended on giving up what you believe in… what would you do?”
Mr.

Sterces

“I would endure the same if people would ask me to stop making apple pies. Ok maybe not all of them. I personally hate fleas.”

Thoughts

I arrive at the church first. Of course you already know that something terrible has happened in or close to this church. What will it be now and why is religion so scary? Churches really do hoard their problems.

The Lost Father

The Lost

Father

“I asked for help. Three times. Every week. Why did no one help?”

Unlock Story

The Lost Father

We heard it again. All of us. Loudly.
“Who will help me?”
“Who will help me?”
“Who will help me?”
Three times. Every Saturday night he asks for it three times before he would painfully melt back into fog again. It has happened for 6 weeks now. We’ve tried it all, Lord. They even closed the church once, including blowing out all candles and locking it in order to prevent him from returning. It didn’t help. We could hear him through the walls of the church.
Every Saturday night at thirty minutes past eleven he rises again. First, it’s simply a white transparant shadow, but then he starts to get his shape. He is half covered in flesh while the rest is already reduced to bone. His voice is deep but has a high pitch to it. It scratches my soul every time he asks again: Who will help me?
Our father of the church has forbidden us to speak to him. Not that we would want to if he hadn’t. We are all so frightened when he appears that none of us can even breathe. But our father especially looks terrified. After the third week we asked him if he knew who this man could be. He refused to speak a word about it.
We weren’t supposed to speak about the dead. But it has been 6 weeks now and I needed to know. I went again, last night. I couldn’t look at him for a longer time, afraid he would see me, but I looked at him long enough to see his clothes. Or whatever is left. He wears the same clothes as our father. He must have been a father as well. I also noticed he was standing at the same spot as the first time; behind the alter. Perhaps he wanted to start a mass before he died but no one was willing to help him and rejected him just like we do now?

The Night of the 25th

Brother

Luke

“If only we had listened and obeyed…”

Unlock Story

The Night of the 25th

Father,

My heart is filled with fear and confusion. I feel like… I am drowning in worries.
Forgive me for what I will write next as it will confess how my thoughts have been filled with thoughts that are not related to anything and anyone but you. It has already been a while since we got less critical to the strong rules of our own order.
One of our younger brothers had complained to our more relaxed approach to our faith. We had decided to not celebrate the vigils of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the 25th. The young brother had warned us for the mistake, but none of us were interesting in correcting it. We were convinced that with the life we had led it was enough to have earned heaven.
On the night of the On July 25tth me and the other brothers were visited by ancient friars. Forgive me lord, but these friars had not risen from heaven. They had left their graves and met our congregation to sing for us. In horror we watched them, until the marched back to their tombs in the cemetery.
They hadn’t looked like ghosts or angels. We could hear their bones break when they were walking, and smell their rotten flesh. We could see their eyes were a bit runny and flies eating away everything that was left. They sang because we had not. They celebrated our Lady of Mount Carmel because we had refused. In the middle of the church, we saw the younger brother, ripped open, after the friars had left. It has been nine days that we have waited for the friars to come to us again, horrified I must add. We all feel as something terrible will happen soon. I pray that I can recover my strength from my faith in you, father. Help me be a brave and good brother.

In Christ’s Name, Amen.
Brother Luke

Your Quest

“I asked for help, and silence answered me. Tell me, when someone begs from the shadows, what do you do?”
Mr.

Sterces

“I ask Kim for help every week too. She always ignores me. I feel personally connected to this man.”

Thoughts

A theatre. On La Rambla. No pressure. The building is absurdly beautiful. The kind of beautiful that makes you forget crowds, noise, and common sense. Of course, you already know what will happen next. A horror story.

Bona Nova

The Hooded

Friar

“You dance where vows were broken.”

Unlock Story

Bona Nova

‘Will be ravaged by the fire of hell. You are warned’.
The sentence never left her mind for more than 2 hours at the time. It wasn’t the only thing the friar had said when he had appeared between the dancers on stage.
‘Blasphemous people, who desecrate this sacred land! And from among the folds of the habit he has taken a crucifix which he now brandishes towards the public surprised. Give up the manifestations of scandal and lust! You are dancing on the corpses of men of God! The wrath of heaven will fall upon you, and this den of perdition will be ravaged by the fire of hell!’
It had not been that long since the theater had opened and it was already known that some had not agreed with the built of the theater on Convent dels Trinitaris Descalços de la Bona Nova. The friar had appeared out of thin air it had seemed. No one was able to see his face and when the watchmen reached the foot of the stage the friar had slipped away between the curtains.
No one ever saw him again. Every time she passed the theater, she waited for the warning to be fulfilled. It could never take long now.

Your Quest

Is it a coincidence or do you think the theatre is actually cursed because of the warning of the hooded friar?
Mr.

Sterces

“Is this about superstition or coincidence? I don’t know. Let’s see which side you fall on.”

Thoughts

I’ve been standing here for a while now. No Kim. No explanation. Just a street that feels like it’s holding its breath. And then… there it is. A whisper. Not loud. Not dramatic. Just enough to make me wonder if it’s coming from the walls… or from my own head.

The Daughters of Herodes

Unlock Story

The Daughters of Herodes

Out of nowhere. You hear a quiet voice. It whispers the same story over and over again.

“You can hear them …
Softly
At first
Touching feet and a small melody.
We know they are coming
and we all close our eyes
Because those who watch
Have to join
The daughter of Herodes
Dancing forever
Headless nevertheless
Enchanting it is
With their curvaceous bodies
But those who watch
Dance forever too.”

Your Quest

“You hear the music. It’s soft. Almost kind. You know you should leave… but the dance is beautiful. What do you do?”
Mr.

Sterces

“Is this ‘just a legend’? Legends, however, have an unfortunate habit of influencing behavior. Let’s see what you would do if curiosity and self-preservation disagreed.”

Thoughts

Barcelona’s stories have been… interesting, to say the least. But the 16th, 17th, and 19th centuries? Yeah, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have survived a week there. All the same, there’s something about wandering a vibrant city that hides centuries of dark, chaotic history… and apparently, I’m about to meet someone who knew how to fix people without even asking.

Ramona

Ramona

Llimargas
“I’ve helped many, risked everything, and seen things others never will. Are you ready to read my letters?”

Unlock Story

Ramona

Ramona María del Remedio Llimargas Soler was a woman of incredible empathy and mysterious talents. Born in 1892, she grew up facing poverty and a strict household, yet her life was marked by faith, courage, and healing. Through her early work with the convent, she learned to care for the sick and comfort the suffering.

She was aiding religious figures during the Spanish Civil War, narrowly escaping execution thanks to Francisco Freixenet, and even warning General Franco of impending dangers predictions she claimed came from her visions, blessed by Saint Teresa of Jesus.
Her closest companion, Mercedes Alsina, described Ramona’s selfless desire to help anyone in need, regardless of their background or religion. She was considered by some the “bilocating nun of Franco,” a title she neither sought nor embraced. Through all of this, her letters capture the essence of a woman who lived at the edge of history, yet chose compassion over fear.

Ramona’s Letters:

To Father Fray Francisco Sedó:

“Many years have passed, yet my gratitude to you remains unchanged… You and the friars protected me from my mother’s harsh treatment and poverty. Faith has been my consolation, but you gave me more than I could ever repay. You allowed me to deepen my knowledge in healing. With deep respect, Ramona.”

To Bishop Juan Perello I Pou:

“Worries have kept me awake. After inviting you to my home for protection during the Spanish Civil War, I feared for your life. I am glad you arrived safely in Mallorca. I took every opportunity to help others after your departure. Hope you are well, Ramona.”

To Francisco Freixenet:

“My deepest gratitude for your action. Without you, I would have been executed. Yet, I would not change anything. I have helped many religious people who would not have survived. They must never know I was taken captive for my actions. During captivity, I decided to help the ill without asking anything in return. Your selfless act inspired this. My deepest thanks, Ramona.”

To General Franco:

“It has come to my attention that you wish to hear my predictions more often. Blessed by Saint Teresa of Jesus, I have seen events yet to come. I warned you not to attend the ceremonial banquet in Zaragoza, as it would be dangerous. I now alert you to changes in strategy at the Battle of Ebro. We will meet next Wednesday to discuss further. Regards, Ramona.”

To Mercedes Alsina (spiritual daughter and confidant):

“My dearest friend, it has been too long. I miss you dearly. People call me the bilocating nun of Franco. I don’t know how to feel. My wish is to help those in need, regardless of origin. I have met a special person, sick and dying. I wish to take their illness upon myself to grant them long life. I know you may not approve, but I must. My life has been blessed, and I’ve helped those I could. Visit me soon, as you have been my best friend. Regards, Ramona.”

Your Quest

Ramona’s letters show her selfless acts during the Spanish Civil War. You find a hidden note asking you to help someone in need but you have limited resources. What do you do?
Mr.

Sterces

“Be careful with what you choice.”

Sagrada Família

Thoughts

Ah, the Sagrada Família. Big, bold, and somehow still under construction, sounds like Gaudí himself left a part of his soul here. The tourists swarm, yes, but I kind of miss the claustrophobic charm of the Gothic Quarter. Still, the view is breathtaking… and if the rumors are true, it’s also haunted.

The Sagrada Família

Gaudí

“I designed a cathedral for eternity, yet barely made it to see it finished. Careful where you step… you might find more than stone here.”

Unlock Story

The Sagrada Família

Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) remains one of the world’s most extraordinary architects. His final masterpiece, the Sagrada Família, would consume his life and imagination for decades. Gaudí was known for his obsession with nature, geometry, and religious symbolism.

Tragically, on 7 June 1926, he was hit by a tram. Passersby mistook him for a beggar due to his disheveled appearance, and by the time help arrived, it was too late. The city mourned a genius, and the Sagrada Família would remain unfinished for generations.

Years after his death, reports of mysterious blue lights and crypt noises surrounded the church, especially near Gaudí’s temporary tomb. The newspapers speculated about hidden symbols, secret weapons, or messages within the crypt. Once the Spanish Civil War ended and Gaudí was reinterred in his final crypt, the phenomena stopped.

Gaudí’s life and death serve as a haunting reminder: genius can be invisible to those too distracted to see it. His Sagrada Família still towers as a testament to vision, devotion, and, perhaps, lingering spirits.

Your Quest

Gaudí’s final tomb was rumored to be rigged with secret traps to protect his legacy from looters.
Mr.

Sterces

“Gaudí left clues not just in stone, but in life and death. Let’s see if you can navigate this cathedral of mysteries.”
